Joe Sturdivant
Joe Sturdivant was a 4 year starter at safety for Southern Methodist University. He was All-Conference USA his junior and senior seasons and was named Honorable Mention Pre-Season All American going into his senior year. Joe was named Conference USA Player of the Week multiple times during his career at SMU. He was first in the conference in passes defended and fourth in tackles (112) during his junior year. He led every Division 1 defensive back in the nation with 109 total tackles and 80 solo tackles his senior year and was selected to play in the Texas vs. Nation All Star Game. In high school, Joe was a three-year starter, team captain, and led his team to three straight state championships. His team ranked second in the nation in the USA Today Top 25 rankings. He is currently the Defensive Coordinator and Defensive Backs coach at First Baptist Academy. They finished the 2009 season at 7-3 after going 3-7 the previous year. Coach Sturdivant’s defense posted 3 shutouts in 10 games.
